TCL TVs
TCL, a major TV maker in China, was at this year’s CES to announce that they are no longer just a manufacturer of screens. They are looking to become a brand in the United States by the end of this year.
TCL makes 3D and Smart TVs that feature their Cloud software that allows users to install apps that update over the internet.
MantaroBot
Mantaro, a product development company based in Maryland, was at CES this year to introduce us robo lovers to MantaroBot, a robor with a base (where a netbook is placed) a screen, and a webcam.
I got the chance to talk with one of the engineers and he told me that the robot started off as a hobby project and since then, the project has been documented on their website. When I asked whether they have pattented any part of it, he said no. He didn’t see any reason to pattent it because they wanted to keep it open-source and accessible to all.
When I asked him about the potential uses for the MantaroBot, he told me that just that morning, he had used the robot to make a conference call with some of his team member up in Maryland. The classic system sells for $3,500 and the iPad version sells for $1,500.
